The Two Main Paths to a CDL

There are two primary ways to get your CDL: CDL school (classroom + behind-the-wheel training) or the self-study route (study independently for the written test, then find skills training). The timelines are very different.

Path 1: CDL School Timeline (3–7 Weeks Typical)

Most accredited CDL schools run intensive programs that can take you from zero to CLP to skills test in 3–7 weeks:
